Jammin’

I first started playing the guitar as a peer thing. Some friends and I decided to start a rock ‘n’ roll band. Like it was the way to win girls and influence people back when I was growing up. At one time in the small town where I grew up, in my neighbourhood alone, there were three garage bands practicing, all with dreams of making it big — of hitting the big time.

I got my start on an old Sears’ Silvertone six string guitar with only three strings on. Bob had actually taken guitar lessons, so he was the lead guitar player. Mike had money, so he was the drummer, and Brian had none, so he was the singer. I had no money either, but Mike was my best buddy, and he had an old Silvertone guitar with only three strings on, so I was the bass player. We added Delbert on rhythm guitar because his Dad had a station wagon to transport our limited musical equipment around in, but he never really fit into the group.
